Coffee grounds make for 'greener' grass fertilizer

Gardening and Yardening via Gardening and Yardening on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Baseball's spring training is in full swing, and all that green grass gets some of us thinking about what great fun it will be when we can finally start mowing our own lawns -- well, maybe I'm the only one. I'm excited because I've come up with one of my cutting-edge ideas for the grass season of 2008. . . .

Ranters get some love in the WaPo

Gardening While Intoxicated via Gardening While Intoxicated on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

You may have already seen this on Garden Rant, but for those who have not, check out this cool article in the Washington Post about the Ranters: Susan, Michele, Amy and me. I'm suspecting Higgins is an old school journalist. Many would have grabbed a lot from the blog, but he interviewed all of us at length—Susan in person—and I can swear I heard that pen scratching on the notepad.

Thank you, Adrian!

Finally Updating my Garden Blog Blogroll

Garden Desk via Garden Desk on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

This is my 2nd year writing at Garden Desk. It's funny to think about this, but a year ago I remember saying to myself "I wonder if there are many other garden related blogs out there". At that time I only knew of a few! I read Veggie Gardening Tips, Compost Bin and May Dreams Gardens and that was about it. In the beginning, as I would find more blogs that I enjoyed, I would add a link to them in my sidebar. As the months went on and I began to realize that there are many many good gardening blogs, I slacked off on adding the links. . . .

South Florida had a Freeze in January and many gardeners lost plants. I didn't lose anything that I cried over. Here's the run-down.

Yesterday and today, we had a wind chill warning, freeze warning, and red flag warning. It was 51 degrees on my porch at 8am. At around 6am, it was 47 degrees. . . .

I've been blogging about gardening for as long as I've been gardening. I love it. Blogging, I mean. Of course I love gardening too - that goes without saying, right? Seed {Packages} of Change

Notes from a Cottage Garden via Notes from a Cottage Garden on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Though I have enjoyed browsing their catalog and sampled a few seed packs from a rack at a local Food Co-op, it was my first year to place an official order with Seeds of Change.

When they arrived, I was delightfully surprised by the bright and colorful seed packages, with their full color photos of the vegetable/flower varieties contained within.

But I must admit, I was a bit puzzled as to why this highly respected company which promotes sustainability and a healthy ecosystem, would choose plastic to house their high quality, certified organic, traditional, heirloom, open pollinated seed....
