New Camera

The Obsessive Gardener via The Obsessive Gardener on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

I had a very good shopping day yesterday. I needed a new camera for the up-coming trip. We have been looking at different cameras for well over two years and just weren't finding one that fit us. One trip to the National Camera Exchange got me the camera I was looking for: Coolpix P50.

New Camera

My Iowa Garden via My Iowa Garden on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Cameras are my weakness, I used a SLR, a Pentax K1000 for years. I bought my first digital camera in 1997, it took a picture at 600 X 460 pixels or some such, but I love my toys. I have had several digital cameras since. One of my friends calls me Best Buy Betty..........lol.........and no my name is not Betty but I do love Best Buy.
My latest camera is a Nikon P5100, it takes great pictures, the above photos were in a magazine, I took a picture of the picture :)

Which is the better image?

DAVID PERRY
PHOTOGRAPHER via DAVID PERRY PHOTOGRAPHER on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Two different cameras. One a nice point and shoot and the other a higher-end digital SLR with an expensive “L” series lens attached. In this case that comes to about thirty-five hundred dollars difference in equipment costs.
It should be pretty easy to tell the difference. Shouldn’t it?
So go ahead.

Lost Camera

Southern Bulb Company via Southern Bulb Company on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

I have been taking a lot of pictures, but I am afraid I left my very nice camera on my US Airways flight in Phoenix and they are yet to find it. It was a Saturday flight and they sent the plane back to the hanger after we unloaded. My camera was up in the overhead storage. They assured me they would go look for it and call me back......

Time-Lapse Photography with Your DSLR

Gardening Tips 'n' Ideas via Gardening Tips 'n' Ideas on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

time-lapse-photography.jpg Time-lapse photography has always impressed me. I just imagined there was someone spending a lot of time behind a camera taking heaps of photos as a flower began to bloom or an egg started to crack open. It seemed logical to capture these incredible events, but who really has the patience for this stuff?

Well it seems that one guy, Ross Ching, not only has the patience for it but is also willing to explain how he does it. If you're wondering whether he has any credibility check out his latest work Eclectic 2.0. While the images are stunning it simply takes your breath away when you realise that this was all performed using his DSLR and not a video camera. . .

Not since I was eight or nine would I have tried to use a sledge hammer to drive finish nails into detailed trim boards on a carpentry project.
And If I ever to decide to pony up the money for one of those beautiful, thin-walled copper egg-beating bowls, you can bet I won’t be using it to boil water on the hot coals of a camp fire. . . .

It's About Time!

An Iowa Garden via An Iowa Garden on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

I've had a good quality digital camera for some time, but with a rather cheap lens (I know this is backwards from the way you're supposed to do things in photography). This lens has some strange Cyrillic writing on it that I suspect indicates it was manufactured in Kazakhstan. Well, today the Fed Ex man delivered my fancy new macro close-up lens. Of course he had to arrive with the package requiring a signature just as I was high up on the roof shoveling snow and ice off. . . .

Seeing small things

MucknMire via MucknMire on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

I love the macro feature of my camera but the camera I love to use best, a Panasonic DMC FX3, can't focus very closely, only about 2" from the subject. The other camera I bought mostly because of it's close macro ability and superior optics has proven to be a cumbersome beast so I rarely use it. That camera a Canon A620 is by no means a large camera and tiny compared to a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex camera. Without add on lenses can focus down to an incredible 1cm which is about 3/8", giving you an extreme macro view of the subject which I wish the Pansonic could do. . . .

Cleaning Up

Robin's Nesting Place via Robin's Nesting Place on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

I've been trying to clean up my computer files for the last several days. I have thousands upon thousands of pictures of flowers and nature related things that I have uploaded since I began blogging. I usually take pictures everyday and some days I will take about a hundred or more pictures, sometimes with more than one camera. So many of those are just taking up memory space on my computer. I mean, how many blurry pictures of pink tulips do I need to keep? Really, how many good pictures of pink tulips do I even need to keep? I think I might have a problem. I hope I'm not the only one who does this.

New used cameras - test photos of wild flowers and weeds

MucknMire via MucknMire on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

My pocket camera a Nikon S-1, that I take on dogwalks, was too finicky and frustrating to use. Granted it was small and thin so easily pocketable but lacked image stabilization so I often ended up with blurred images in spite of it having blur detection ability. I would often get the message "the image is blurred, do you want to keep the photo" so I would have to take the picture again with often the same results and still have some blurred pictures that the camera missed detecting. . . .
