tips for potted rosemary?

Tribe.net: Grow Organic! via Tribe.net: Grow Organic! on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

I'd like to try to grow rosemary (not from seed since that has not once worked for me!) in a pot. I've not had great success with this in the past and if memory serves me, rosemary is not a big fan of pots. Nevertheless, I'd like to try once again. It's been a few years since I tried, so I can't recall what I did or didn't do to make it fail. Does anyone have any tips for me?

To Kill a Rosemary

Calendula & Concrete via Calendula & Concrete on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

A lot of people find their way to my blog when they type in a Google search for something like, "rosemary plant root rot," or "how to save a dying rosemary plant." So if you've come here looking for advice on how to grow a rosemary plant successfully, well, all I can say is, I am sorry I cannot help. I am no good with rosemary. And this photo is perfect proof.

What I can tell you with confidence is how I killed mine. . . .

Rosemary in Bloom

My California Garden in Zone 23 via My California Garden in Zone 23 on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

I noticed over the weekend that the rosemary is blooming. I really like when rosemary is removed from the herb garden and takes its place as an evergreen shrub in a border garden. The flowers are delicate but the folliage's fragrance is so aromatically robust. Just being near the plant to snap this photo has left my clothing with the spicy pungent smell.

For Janet re: the rosemary tree

Idaho Gardener via Idaho Gardener on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

For Janet who was busy moving her rosemary tree to the compost pile…….I don’t profess to be an expert on rosemary but will share with you my personal experience.

Rosemary is generally hardy here in Boise. That said, if it drops below zero, you will probably want to put a blanket over it or put it in the garage until the cold snap is over. And by all means, keep your rosemary outside. It is too warm in the house. In the house we also tend to baby them and overwater them. . . .

Making a Rosemary Topiary

Papa Geno's Garden Blog via Papa Geno's Garden Blog on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Topiary is the art of trimming and training shrubs or trees into ornamental shapes. For example, you can grow and train a rosemary plant into a formal standard (the top is shaped into a perfect globe (or globes) that is (are) held on a single stem)....

the smell of rosemary

Idaho Gardener via Idaho Gardener on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Rosemary for remembrance. It works. When I went out to harvest some today, shaking the snow off the sturdy bush, whiffing the stringent, delishus fragrance as I walked back into the kitchen, I was reminded. Reminded THATwas the very reason we garden………..if only to pick a sprig of rosemary for the stew in the deep of winter.

Ahhhhhhhhh.

christmas rosemary

prairie point via prairie point on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

We have a big artificial tree in the barn. But it’s stored behind and under a number of other boxes and unused furniture.

We could have struggled it out. But really we are not expecting a lot of guests out in our rural home and certainly no one is going to see it through the window.

So we decided to get a rosemary and decorate it this year. Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of miniature decorations yet.

When Christmas is over we will plant the rosemary and enjoy it for years to come.  We were planning on planting rosemary anyway.

Gardening Question of the Day for Sunday, October 8, 2006

Gardening Question of the Day (from the Old Farmer's Almanac) via Gardening Question of the Day (from the Old Farmer's Almanac) on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Is it possible to grow rosemary in an outdoor bed in Nashville, Tennessee, without having to dig it up and bring it inside before the first frost? I am wondering whether heavy mulching at the base and a burlap cover over the plant would help it live through our mild winter freezes. (answer).

From The Old Farmer's Almanac.

Rosemary is For... Um... What Was It...

This Garden Is Illegal via This Garden Is Illegal on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Oh, yeah... Rosemary is for remembrance. Rosemary has been used through the ages to remember quite a few things. The dead, those in love, answers to tests, domineering women, Mother of Christ, satan's offspring... Just a wide variety things. I personally just like the way it smells, though I have to admit, it does remind me of my wedding day. Yes, even I get foolishly sappy sometimes and there

Can this rosemary plant be saved?

Calendula & Concrete via Calendula & Concrete on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Our rosemary plant is dying. It grew wonderfully last year -- and the year before -- but a few weeks ago, it started turning brown on us. We didn't treat it any differently than in previous years, so what could have gone wrong? When we saw it was beginning to dry up, we added more water and fertilizer. Even with all the rain we've had over the past few weeks, though, there has been no
