Charming Gardeners and Notecards

Our Little Acre via Our Little Acre on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Look what I found at Hallmark today . . .

One of my readers - I'm sorry I can't remember who - made a comment several months ago that they'd gotten some notecards at Hallmark with the Proust quote that I have under my blog title. Today, while looking for shoes to go with my dress for Jenna's upcoming wedding, I popped into the Hallmark store to see if I could find the cards. Woot!

I found the perfect shoes, too. On a Monday. I should have bought a lottery ticket.

Stepping Stones

The Gardener Side via The Gardener Side on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

It is fun to have whimsical stepping stones throughout the garden.
Here are a couple of ones that I made a year or so ago at a workshop. The round stones were purchased at a garden supply store. Using crafters goop glue I added the mosaics and the keys. Then grout was added to fill in all the spaces. After the grout dries you have to rub it off of the keys and tiles. Finally a coat of sealer was added so that they could go outside. I would never walk on this stepping stone but have it on one side of the front path. . . .

Try as I might, I could not get an angle to eliminate the shadow, which obscures some of the wording. Here it is: To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget
ourselves. This is the main reason we chose this model: that and the lion.

And this is where it sits - on top of the mosaiced pot. I really don't know why we wanted this. Neither of us wears watches and are not governed by time but it just seems in keeping with this very rustic garden. . . .

The Morning Read: Sims Gardening

Cultivated via Cultivated on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

Browsing the newspaper this morning, I came across an article about the popularity of the Sims video games.

Then I stopped over at Kate's blog to read her charming story about the awakening of the liverlilies.

Mingling the two together in my mind, the light bulb lit up - what if there was a Sims-type gardening game?

Turns out I'm way behind on this one. Just do a Google search for "sims garden" and you'll see what I mean.

This could be an interesting winter diversion.....next winter. But I'm curious, have you ever played a video gardening game?

Here they are: the plants I was kind of unsure about. Now I know where I stand with them. . . .

And, as I follow through the fresh and fragrant furrow,

I am planted with every footstep ;

growing, budding, blooming,

Baby Calf grows inside Award-Winning Giant Pumpkin

Gardening Tips 'n' Ideas via Gardening Tips 'n' Ideas on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

calf-pumpkin.jpg Texan cattle farmer, Teg Whisson, got more than he bargained for after winning a recent produce competition in Fort Worth. His 1485lb history making giant pumpkin began to grow legs - quite literally - as they unloaded the prize on his ranch return. Two hours later, Whisson was delivering a calf. Not as one would expect from its labouring mother but actually from within Whisson's prize pumpkin. . . .

Garden Player Haters Ball

My Skinny Garden via My Skinny Garden on 1969-12-31, 19:00:00

The official definition of a Player Hater is "one who despises or speaks ill of another 'player' because he does not have any game of his own."

I'm a Garden Player Hater. I suppose I don't "speak ill" of other garden players but I sure do covet lots of their crap because, let's face it, I have no "garden game."

Here's a list of garden players I hate on in no particular order...

Farmgirl's donkeys
Jodi's Himalayan blue poppy
Marc's exotic tomatoes
Carol's hoes
Connie's greenhouse

If I'm hosting a Garden Player Hater's Ball, who will you be hating on?
